There is a little story behind this painting.

Emma is my dog, and she is one of the gentlest, sweetest creatures I know. She is also, unapologetically, a tomboy. The idea of Emma being perfectly agreeable to nearly everything except the indignity of a pink ribbon seemed an appropriate title for this painting.

The painting itself has a quieter temperament.

Layers of acrylic and gouache move across the canvas in pale whites, soft blues, muted greens, charcoal, and small passages of pink. Botanical forms begin to emerge and dissolve within the layers, creating the sense of looking into a garden through changing light.

The pink appears almost mischievously against the otherwise restrained palette, which is perhaps where Emma and the painting have more in common than they realize.
